About Iford Manor: the Peto Garden
The family-owned, Grade 1 listed Peto Garden is tucked away at the bottom of a tranquil valley. Paths twist and turn around ancient statues, columns, terraces and architecture which, combined with ebullient planting schemes, lead you on in anticipation of the next delight. Set in 2.5 acres this steep, terraced, hillside, Italian-style garden affords the visitor wonderful views of the valley.
Revered Edwardian garden designer Harold Peto made Iford Manor his home from 1899-1933 and set about creating the magnificent gardens that you see today, a showcase of his abilities as a designer. Steeped in history, a visit to the romantic, Italianate gardens is “like stepping into another world” (Ben Pentreath, 2016) and was rated as Vogue’s #5 favourite garden to visit in the U.K. (Vogue, April 2017). The Peto Garden at Iford Manor won the “Historic Houses Association/Christie's 1998 Garden of the Year Award” and the “Little Treasures of Britain” award in the 2017 Group Travel Awards.
A selection of drinks and homemade cakes are available during opening hours. Please note that Iford Manor itself is not open to the public
